Acknowledgments

We are most grateful to the Reverend Charles William Gilles, O.M.I. of Washington, D.C. He has been the primary source and contributor of information about the Gilles family.

Father Gilles corresponded with the Reverend J. Röhrig, pastor of the Roman Catholic parish at Höhr-Grenzhausen, Hessen-Nassau, West Germany, who sent him documents and other information about the Gilles family roots.

Father Gilles also corresponded with Wilhelm Gilles of Welschneudorf, who told him that he lives in the Gilles ancestral home, which has been the family seat since 1649. Herr Gilles says the family has the right to bear a coat of arms and that he is descended from a Michael Gilles, born 12 May 1715, the son of Hildegero Gilles.
